Pippa toy boys

Philippa Middleton aka Pippa is definitely the hottest trend setter of summer 2011.
After the unforgettable performance on Will&Kate royal wedding, the spotlight has turned an increasingly intense and global light on the pilates-shaped Pippa.
Left the historic boyfriend, the banker Alex Ludon, supposed a flirtation with minor Prince Harris, paparazzi shooting her in company of the noble dolphin George Percy, Duke of Northumpton and one of the richest man in the kingdom, Pippa seems to have deeply learnt lessons of mother Carole .

Legend has it that the rampant character of the Middleton sisters, Kate and Philippa, is both due in large part to education imparted by theirs mother, mom to which a major University has to grant a degree in Marketing honoris causa.

The fact remains that the young Pippa, with that impish smile and cute look, the nice girl next door with a stunning b-side, strong of the incredible share of popularity, is very well playing some of the most beautiful pieces of Anglo-Saxon nobility, both for part of blood or portfolios.
To say that the lovely Philippa knows very well manage her toy boys.
Although rumors indicate that the other half of the perfect Middleton's apple jealously guard her true love, met in regular trips to Paris and met at a prestigious luxury house.
No coincidence that Pippa would shortly agree to work in France.

Paris to pick a pal in Dubai

IOL Tonight Pic 20 Apr 11 Paris Hilton's Dubai BFF

US socialite Paris Hilton gestures during a press conference in the Gulf emirate of Dubai on June 17, 2009. AFP PHOTO/KARIM SAHIB UAE-US-PEOPLE-HILTON

Just when you thought the reality TV landscape could not get any worse – Paris Hilton is out to

prove you wrong. Paris Hilton’s Dubai BFF is the blonde heiress’s latest bright idea.

As the title suggests, Hilton looks for a new best friend in the United Arab Emirates. Yes, really. If you thought your scouting for strangers on Facebook was shameful wait till you see this.

Having successfully worked the title in the US and the UK, Hilton saw Dubai as the next best place.

The season starts off with 20 women battling it out to try to impress the spoilt American brat. Though the ultimate prize is becoming Hilton’s new best friend, no one knows what that really means.

Does it mean moving to the US to join in her wild ways? Or maybe free stays in the executive suites of all the Hilton hotels the world over? Whatever it is, what young woman in her right mind would put herself up for the humiliation of standing in line to be selected by Hilton in the way slaves used to be sold?

Had the ultimate prize been money, a scholarship or even a fully paid stay at a posh resort it would have made sense, but this is not the case here.

Perhaps this show is meant to be interesting because it is shot in the Middle East where the rules, especially against women, are somewhat repressive. Since Hilton is used to having things her way, it should be worth looking at how she settles in.

For instance, she won’t be allowed near alcohol. This is the UAE, people. You can’t even kiss in public and not get into trouble. Women can’t wear trousers and jeans, let alone short skirts. Hilton is a loose canon, so it should be interesting to see how she deals with all the restrictions.

As for the winner, she had better be an orphan because anyone from a steady home settling for something as embarrassing as this should be disowned. Imagine your only claim to fame is being Paris Hilton’s best friend. And just recently, on her last visit to South Africa, Hilton’s real BFF was bust with marijuana in yet another stain on the Hilton name.

Hilton’s friends include the likes of Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan. Perhaps the girls in Dubai will want to follow in Kim’s footsteps because after consorting with Hilton, and the “accidental” release of a sex tape, Kim became a star in her own right. Sies.

Ines de la Fressenge: How to dress French

The French know fashion, this is hard to deny. And there are few Frencher, or chicer than Inès de la Fressange. The ex-model and Chanel muse is known for her consistently polished yet effortless dress sense. Putting her fashion know-how to good use, Ms Fressange has penned Parisian Chic: A Style Guide. Apart from suggesting we shop in the men's department, age gracefully, and avoid trends like the devil, Inès has some gems of fashion wisdom to share:

  • "Better a genuine straw bag than a fake luxury label. Counterfeit is counterfashion!"
  • "Jeans are never too risky; they're a little like salt — they go with everything!"
  • "The little black dress is not simply an item of clothing, it's a concept. It's abstract, it's universal — which means there's one that's perfect for everyone."
  • "Never, ever buckle the belt properly like a good little girl. Tie it in front or behind with the buckle hanging loose. Unobtrusive fashion statements like this...are very, very Parisian."
  • "Push back or roll up the sleeves — the ultimate 'easy chic' statement. Even better when the lining's a different colour."

Ines de la Fressange: putting the Paris back in L'Oreal

Je ne sais quoi ... Ines de la Fressange on the catwalk for Chanel in 2010.

In recent years, models in their thirties and forties have been an increasingly common sight on billboards and catwalks. But at 53, Ines de la Fressange stands out even among this older bunch. The former Chanel model, who began her career in 1975, is joining L'Oreal's as the company's new "Paris Ambassadress".

An icon in her native France, de la Fressange has been a muse for both Karl Lagerfeld and Thierry Mugler, and in 1989 her likeness was used for a bust of Marianne, a French national symbol. More recently, she has turned her hand to design, creating her own label and helping to relaunch French footwear brand Roger Vivier.

As a spokesmodel for L'Oreal, she joins a diverse, but highly selective, group which includes Milla Jovovich, Beyonce Knowles, Diane Keaton and Eva Longoria.

Louis Vuitton, My Honey!

Louis Vuitton

In April 2009, Louis Vuitton installed three beehives on the roof of its Parisian HQ on the rue de Pont Neuf. Its first batch of honey is now ready for spring, celebrated through creative displays at many of its store windows worldwide till May.
It is a nod to biodiversity. As Louis Vuitton tells it: ‘35 per cent of food resources in
the world are insured by nectar- and pollen-gathering insects.’
Through 2010, 200,000 bees gathered 75 kg of nectar for Louis Vuitton.
The honey won’t be sold: it will be given to friends and family of the company.

John Galliano scandal puts spark back into Paris fashion week

Dior designer's indiscretion may have hit the big names, but the minnows see a silver lining

It was the most spectacular and scandalous Paris fashion week in years, and many of the big names – not least John Galliano – were left counting the cost.

However, for many designers less well-known outside the rarefied world of fashion, sensational headlines brought a potentially profitable silver lining. One such was Haider Ackermann, an independent designer who has been described by some fashionistas as "the new Yves Saint Laurent" and is being tipped for the top job at Dior.

"It was a very bizarre fashion week, but a very good one for us," said Katou Brandsma, who represents Ackermann. "Everyone was congratulating us. We had buyers from shops, like Barneys in New York, we've been waiting for 10 years to turn up to our shows. Our designs stood out because everyone else – apart from McQueen – was so boring."

Among the other designers to reap the rewards of the unusually scrutinised fashion week was the Italian-Japanese designer Nicola Formichetti, who counts Lady Gaga among her fans and was widely congratulated for her debut collection for Thierry Mugler.

Following unconfirmed reports that she had been chosen to design Kate Middleton's wedding dress, British creator Sarah Burton's collection for the label of the late Alexander McQueen also drew plaudits.

Some observers had feared that the aftermath of Galliano's dramatic firing from Dior – for allegedly making antisemitic comments in a drunken rantin a Paris bar – would result in a fashion week dominated by scandal rather than sartorial fireworks. Their worries were not soothed by the hullabaloo greeting Kate Moss's appearance on the catwalk smoking a cigarette. One writer at the event, who declined to be named, said his editor demanded: "Give us a good story about fashion week, but don't bother about the clothes."

For the unluckiest on the French capital's fashion circuit, the controversy did indeed spell disaster: Brussels-born designer Anthony Vaccarello's show was scheduled for the first day of the week – the same day, it transpired, that Galliano was fired. Vaccarello, remarked the New York Times, had a "fine presentation whose fate it was to be forgotten instantly".

Others, however, remain convinced that a good dose of publicity never did any harm. Dana Thomas, a Paris-based fashion writer and author of Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Lustre, said the fall-out from l'affaire Galliano and the subsequent rumours of musical chairs at the big-name fashion houses had produced a "win-win situation"...

DIOR: who's next?

Who will be Dior’s next designer? That’s the question some of the world’s most influential fashion players are asking in the wake of the renowned French label’s fall 2011 runway show, where disgraced designer John Galliano was notably absent.

Galliano, who was fired this week for anti-semitic comments, held what is considered a plum gig in the fashion industry. Christian Dior is a billion-dollar global brand that turned Galliano into a power player when he joined the house 15 years ago. WWD, the fashion world’s trade newspaper, reported Friday that London bookies are placing bets on who might be Galliano’s successor. Here we dissect some of the names being thrown into the ring as possible contenders:

Haider Ackermann

The Colombian-born designer is a budding star in Paris. His clothes are edgy and modern yet poetically romantic. Last year, he brought his collection — which is sold at 119 Corbo in Yorkville — to Toronto for a fashion show at the ROM. But as accolades pour in for this charming gentleman’s work, it’s unclear whether he’s ready for the big leagues. Some insiders speculate he might not be ready to divide his attention between his carefully nurtured label and a behemoth like Dior.

Riccardo Tisci

He is the current darling of Paris and the favourite to land the gig. Givenchy, where he currently works, is owned by LVMH, the luxury conglomerate that also owns Dior. If executives move him over he will be following a similar career path to Galliano’s. But unlike Galliano, Tisci is seen as non-controversial yet able to turn out red-hot and coveted collections. The other factor in his favour: he also works in couture. Not all designers are trained in the rarefied world of incredibly labour-intensive one-of-a-kind outfits. And Dior is one of the few houses in Paris still producing couture collections.

Alber Elbaz

Elbaz has done wonders for the house of Lanvin, successfully rejuvenating this historic French label. And the masses love his work: his recent collaboration with H&M was a blockbuster. Think of what he would be able to do with money-making fragrances and accessories at Dior.

Marc Jacobs

A design demigod, Jacobs generates an incredible amount of press for his Marc Jacobs line in New York and Louis Vuitton in Paris. The latter is also owned by the company that owns Dior, so he’s already part of the stable. Would the powers that be consider moving one of their prized talents over to Dior? Could be tricky, since it would create another headache for them to fill his rather big shoes at LV. But installing such a big name at Dior might just wipe the slate clean and eradicate Galliano from memory.
